Planted By Streams Of Water

Abiding in Christ in the Halls of Power

"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers."Psalm 1:1-3

Some of us serve in a high-stakes environment where competing pressures and voices constantly demand your attention. Counsel is plentiful, but wisdom is rare. Psalm 1 presents two contrasting ways of life: the way of the righteous, who delight in God’s Word, and the way of the wicked, who reject His truth. The righteous one is described as a tree planted by streams of water, strong, fruitful, and enduring.

But where do we find such righteousness when we are surround by darkness? Scripture makes clear that, apart from Christ, none are righteous (Romans 3:10). Left to ourselves, we are prone to follow worldly wisdom, seek power over justice, and bend to pressures that lead away from God’s truth.

Yet the good news of the gospel is that Christ Himself is our righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30). He is the true and better tree, the Vine to whom we must be connected to bear fruit (John 15:5). His life, death, and resurrection secure for us the blessing described in Psalm 1—not because of our works, but because of His grace.

For those serving in government, the call is not merely to act ethically but to be deeply rooted in Christ. Delight in God’s Word is not just about reading Scripture; it is about finding joy and nourishment in Christ, the Word made flesh (John 1:14). Meditating on His truth should shape decisions, policy-making, and how we interact with colleagues and constituents.

Ask yourself:

- Am I seeking the wisdom of Christ in my leadership, or am I relying on worldly counsel?

- Does my work reflect the justice, mercy, and righteousness of His kingdom?

- Am I drawing strength from Christ, abiding in Him, and bearing the fruit of the Spirit

For those of us supporting you—whether as church members, family, or friends—we want to encourage you to stay rooted in Christ, standing firm against corruption and compromise. Remember that you are called to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16), witnessing to the transformative power of the gospel even in the halls of government.

We are grateful for the opportunity you have to serve in government. May you remain rooted in Christ, the source of true wisdom and righteousness. Delight in His Word, lead with integrity, and bear fruit that reflects His justice and truth. Remember that you have a community praying for you and supporting you, striving together to advance His kingdom’s purposes.

May God bless your time in office serving as one voice for many.
