12: Friends

Our Heavenly Father, the creator of friendships, you have boldly named your children, such as Abraham

in years past, as your friends. Our desire and ability to have friends comes from you. You have made us in your image. For this reason we long for friends who will care for and encourage us. We long for friends who will speak truth to us when we need it. Thank you for such a gift.

Your only Son, Jesus Christ, taught us to love each other as he has loved us. It was our Lord Christ who said,

“Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

—John 15:13-15

For us to be counted as your friends, O Lord, is a gift of your mercy and grace. May you alone receive the praise and adoration for your love.

We ask that you would continually provide and maintain healthy friendships for our president. May they be true to him and his life and work. May they keep Donald Trump from being isolated from reality. Give these friends wisdom and the gift of grace both in their actions and words. May they bring encouragement and joy to him and his family in times of prosperity and in need.

Provide him with those who are sensitive to your Word and Spirit and further your gospel. Protect our president from those whoappear to be his friends, but are deceptive.

Above all, may he always see you as his friend and Savior. We pray this in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
